Acid reflux could cause chest pain that could be burning, stabbing, or dull, depending on type and severity of the acid reflux and also by foods causing it. It is caused by the acid escaping to the stomach due to the weakening of the LES valve. When the acid reaches the esophagus this pain could be felt, that is mistaken for a heart attack.

The treatment lies in calming the pain initially followed by long term life style changes till the patient is relieved of all the symptoms of the condition.
